How Often Should You Feed Your Shih Tzu?

How Often Should You Feed Your Shih Tzu?

How often should I feed my shih tzu? This is a very important question asked by many shih tzu lovers and shih tzu owners. If it is a shih tzu puppy within the age of newborn to six weeks, the puppies need to be given milk at the five to seven times per day. Usually the shih tzu puppies will make a sound if they want to be fed.

When your shih tzu puppy reaches 4 weeks, you can start introducing solid food. Just mix the solid food with some water (more water than food) and feed it to your puppy. If this gives the shih tzu puppy diarrhea, just switch it back to milk for a few more days before trying solid food again.

Figuring out how much you should feed your shih tzu depends mostly on trial and error. Once your shih tzu puppy reaches 8 weeks, you can reduce the amount of feedings to 2-3 times per day. If your shih tzu is still hungry with only two or three feedings, you can increase the amount of food you give it at meal time or add in another small meal.
